Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Tyler, Texas 1935

The congregation purchased property at Front Street and South Broadway and the new church was dedicated until March 17, 1935. Pope John Paul II created the Diocese of Tyler on December 12, 1986, from portions of the Diocese of Dallas, the Diocese of Beaumont and the Diocese of Galveston-Houston. Immaculate Conception became the Cathedral at that time. Wiki

Joseph Strickland of the Diocese of Dallas was named the fourth bishop of Tyler by Benedict XVI in 2011. Strickland was the first native East Texan to head the diocese.

Tyler is famous for roses. Even better than the great Earl Campbell, the greatest Tyler Rose is Bishop Joseph Strickland. When I sent him a very small donation in 2018 and a note saying that my young relative was moving to Tyler he sent this note back to me. I have kept it because it may be a second class relic some day!

Tyler is also home to a church run by the Fraternal Society of St. Peter, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

Veritatis Splendor is a Catholic community that is growing outside of Tyler with Oratorian priests from the Pious House in Tyler saying Mass at the Holy Family Chapel at Veritatis Splendor.
